Updated: Jan 30, 2023

Season Two of the Netflix' South African Crime Drama - Kings Of Jo'Burg was just launched on January 27th at 3am. Check out the details!!

Kings of Jo'Burg, one of South Africa's most popular Netflix Crime Dramas, launched season 1 on December 4th, 2020 to great reviews. It was created and starred Motswana actor (based in South Africa) Shona Ferguson, who also executive produced season 1 with his wife Connie Ferguson. Together, they had co-founded Ferguson Films in 2010. Some of their other productions included Rockville, iGazi, The Gift, The Throne, The Herd, The Queen, The River and The Imposter.

In Kings of Jo'Burg, Connie played Masire Mermaid, a mystical spirit guide Mermaid, while Shona Ferguson played the elder brother, Simon 'Vader' Masire. The themes in season 1 included: organized crime, family drama, mysticism, and magic.

The Logline: The Masire brothers rule Johannesburg's criminal underworld but a supernatural family curse and a tangled web of betrayal threaten to destroy them.

Sadly, Shona Ferguson passed away on July 30th, 2021 due to Covid Complications at the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. Here's an article about his death in The South African

Connie had to pick up the pieces after the loss of her husband, and move their projects along.

She remembers on the first day of filming of season two, when she first walked onto set without Shona, the cast and crew just stared at her. She didn't know whether she should give them a speech or not. They all were in mourning over the loss of Shona. Her tongue was tied, and she didn't know what to say. But she greeted them and simply said, "Let's Work.." And so they filmed the first scene.

After the first scene was in the can, Connie called all her people together, and they had their official conversation about what had happened, and about continuing the show.

"It's tough, but I'm okay. We're going to do this. Not only for Shona, but for ourselves as well. Because that is what HE would want. The Show Goes On..." Connie Ferguson told her cast and crew on the first day of the filming of season 2 of Kings of Jo'Burg #TheShowGoesOn

Here's the full interview by Duduzile Ramela of Newzroom Africa, where Connie Ferguson opens up about the death of her husband, Shona Ferguson. She talks with Duduzile about loss, getting back to work and future projects.

Season two was completed with 8 episodes, and premiered January 27th, 2023 at 3am. Connie says, "It was hard to do without my husband, but at the same time, I just had this

"thing" that I was going to do this for my husband and for me. I needed to do it - we believe that you don't start something and not finish it."

Connie, the other producers and the writers

got together and found a way to pay tribute to Shona's character and still bring in some exciting new plot twists to the new season.
